Counselling FAQsFrequently Asked Questions

How much does counselling or coaching cost?

Answer: £45 per session.

Note: If that is beyond your means, please let me know. I genuinely want to offer counselling or coaching to people in need where I can reasonably do so.

If you feel that you cannot reasonably afford to pay that hourly rate, please contact me and we can discuss what you can afford.

Your first session (of half an hour) will be free of charge.

What kinds of problems or issues can you help people with?

Answer : Lots. These include anger management, anxiety, bereavement, depression, mental health, obsessions, relationships, sex and sexuality, sleeplessness, stress and various other matters.

Where do I need to go to get counselling or coaching?

Answer: You can choose from a number of different venue options, or I can come to you. (Please see my Where and When page for further information).

How soon can you see me?

Answer : As soon as I can. Please call, text or email me.

Why is the first half hour session free?

Answer : During that session we will discuss whether counselling or coaching might be right for you, how we might work together; and administrative arrangements about confidentiality, appointments and payment. We will also discuss a Counselling or Coaching Confidentiality Agreement.

How do I pay for counselling or coaching?

Answer : By cash or by cheque at the end of each session, or via Paypal. Please add £2.50 to cover the transaction charge if using Paypal.

Will I get a receipt?

Answer : Yes, always.

What about confidentiality?

Answer : All our work together will be bound by a Counselling or Coaching Confidentiality Agreement, based on the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) guidelines.

Why is a counselling or coaching Agreement needed?

Answer: Both of us need to be clear about what our expectations are in counselling or coaching at the beginning. An Agreement enables that mutual understanding to be made clear and explicit.

Do I need to sign anything?

Answer: Yes. We will both sign the Counselling or Coaching Confidentiality Agreement.

What if I cannot manage to my appointment?

Answer: Phone me and let me know as soon as possible.

Will it cost me anything if I can't manage?

Answer : Not if you let me know quickly. I will ask you to pay for cancelling if it is at short notice, and any room booking costs.

How long does a typical counselling or coaching session last?

Answer : Usually about 50 minutes to one hour.

How long will I need to come to counselling or life coaching for?

Answer : That is a very difficult question to answer. In my own experience, some people might only need a few sessions, while for others the counselling or coaching journey can take considerably longer.

How will I know when I am ready to stop receiving counselling or coaching?

Answer: You will know, trust me.

How can you help me with life coaching?

Answer : I have a proven career of helping people self develop, manage change, and better themselves. Careers, coaching, higher or further education and other aspects of self development are popular areas to explore. I use a number of coaching techniques to encourage clients to help maximise their potential and achieve their life goals.

What if I have other questions that aren't answered here?

Please just ask me. I will try to answer you as best I can, and it will not cost you anything. My Useful Links page might also be helpful to you.
